Cape Kortia

* We have received reports that container ship, CAPE KORTIA, experienced a fire in the engine room, whilst approaching its berth at Balboa Panama, on 30 January 2023.

* The vessel is reported to have lost control as a consequence of the fire and the vessel may have come into contact with bulk carrier ERNST OLDENDORFF which was berthed at the port.

* CAPE KORTIA remained under control of port tugs, which succeeded in avoiding a more serious incident and later assisted the vessel to berth at Balboa.

* The fire on board the vessel is reported to have been bought under control with assistance from the local Port Authorities.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
