* Further to our first Casualty Advice concerning the fire onboard Ro-Ro cargo ship, GRANDE COSTA D'AVORIO, we have received the following updated information:

* The vessel was stowed with a combination of approximately 1,200 new and second-hand vehicles for export from the US, and 157 containers of general cargo.

* We are advised that professional salvors have been instructed to provide assistance to the vessel, acting under LOF terms.

* Consequently, Salvage Security will be required to be provided by a party acceptable to the Salvors or the Council of Lloyd's on behalf of cargo interests and W K Webster will be able to assist in this regard. Security provided by WKW is acceptable to the Council of Lloyd's and widely preferred by professional Salvors.

* If General Average is declared, General Average security may also be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard also.

* Recovery issues will also arise in respect of any physical damage to cargo stowed in the vicinity of the fire and to lower decks within the vessel's hold.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we may immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.

* We have received reports that Ro-Ro cargo ship, GRANDE COSTA D'AVORIO experienced a fire whilst berthed at Port Newark, USA on 5 July 2023.

* It is reported that the fire may have ignited on deck 10 of the vessel and subsequently spread to two decks above that deck.

* Assistance to extinguish the fire was provided by a fire-fighting tug and the local Fire Brigade and it is reported that the fire was later extinguished.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage issues may arise as a result of this casualty. Vehicles stowed in the vicinity of the fire are also very likely to have been affected by fire/heat/smoke damage and/or water damage arising from the fire-fighting operations and therefore recovery issues are also likely to arise.

* We recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we may immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
